Uncharted: The Nathan Drake CollectionOver the years, Naughty Dog's acclaimed Uncharted series has provided gamers with high-octane action, jaw-dropping set pieces and excellent storytelling.

Now, re-released for the PlayStation 4, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, encapsulates three essential outings of our stalwart hero, with a number of extra features and performance enhancements to boot.

Although Uncharted: Drake's Fortune wasn't Drake's debut outing, it was the first title in the series to have been released. While the it may of not aged as gracefully as its predecessors, it was developed in 2007 and really laid the foundation for the amazing adventures to come. While Drake's Fortune is the weak link in the Uncharted trilogy only because it was the very first and Naughty Dog was still grasping the true potential of what they had created but it is still a very solid campaign.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake CollectionDrake, accompanied by his weathered right-hand man, Victor Sullivan and the newly acquainted Elena Fisher, are after the legendary treasure of El Dorado. Though not too far into their quest, the trio quickly finds out that they're in for much more than a tranquil island retreat. Thus, sending them on a wild goose chase filled with pirates, lush islands and century old secrets.

New additions include a competitive leader board displaying your game achievements. Everything from total headshots scored to successful grenade kills are tracked and compared to that of your friends. Also, a new "Brutal" mode has been added for those looking to dial up the intensity. As one could guess from its name, this mode isn't for the faint of heart and requires a level of cunning not yet demanded in the Uncharted series . For those looking for a more laid back experience however, a new "Adventure Mode" difficulty is available for those who wish to enjoy the plot without too many headaches.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake CollectionUncharted 2 marked a breakthrough for the series. Showered in accolades and praise upon release, it is easily one of the greatest action titles to have ever been released. Everything from graphics to gameplay, character development have seen a dramatic increase in quality. Environments look much more detailed this time around as well as both the shooting and manoeuvring mechanics feeling more snappier and smooth. In Among Thieves, Drake and company are out to uncover the truth behind the lost fleet of Marco Polo. This sends the gang on a globe trotting adventure filled with betrayal, love triangles, and of course, explosions.

Drakes latest exploit, Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception, delivers a slightly more personal story and delves into the enigmatic past of Nathan Drake while he searches for the fabled Atlantis of The Sands. The narrative is what truly distinguishes it from the prior releases. The gameplay remains largely the same and controls have the same fluidity as in the second instalment.

Each title within the Nathan Drake collection runs at a smooth sixty frames per second. The resolution has also been changed to a crisp 1080p. All the aforementioned features and enhancements are consistent throughout each game in the collection.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake CollectionIt should also be noted that both Uncharted 2 and 3 do not contain their respective multiplayer components. Though certainly not a surprising omission, both of these multiplayer modes served as an amusing distraction once the single player campaigns had been completed. Fans of Uncharted multiplayer needn't fret however, as each copy of The Nathan Drake Collection comes with access to the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta set to kick off in December of this year.

The perilous escapades of Nathan Drake and his crew of treasure hunting heroes are essential playthroughs for any gamer. Simply put, The Nathan Drake collection is an excellent package both for those looking to relive Drake's past, as well as those who have yet to experience the wondrous thrill ride that is the Uncharted series.
