The word in the title is pronounced Mack-if-I and I’m not sure that’s really even a word. In any event, a little innovative company out of San Diego called Information Appliance Associates (IAA) produce the niftiest little applications and utilities under the PocketMac brand, that are truly functional, priced “light” and most often a must buy.

MACify Your BlackBerryI got such a kick out of this particular one, I had to let everyone know about it. And isn’t even ultimately for your Mac, but will run on your Mac.  This application will allow you to transform the look and feel of your BlackBerry into a miniature Mac. It’s appropriately called PocketMac® MacThemes™ for BlackBerry. IAA claims it’s the first tool that accomplishes such a feat.

Of course, it’s not a Mac, and not even really an iPhone, it’s still a BlackBerry, but it will make you feel like your back at home using your own Mac. Just use a little imagination, ok?

How it works is simple. The MacTheme simply replaces the standard BlackBerry interface with the aqua version of Mac-like icons, colours and backgrounds.

IAA’s CTO Terence Goggin, is so excited about the product himself, admitting that he loves both his Mac and  using his BlackBerry. It’s like getting the best of both worlds.

7 Varieties, 35 Flavours

So no Blackberry will go without, or almost, there are 7 different variations of this application that supports 35 of the various 7xxx and 8xxx series models, including the Pearl and the Curve. Support for the BlackBerry Bold is expected soon.

PocketMac® MacThemes™ for BlackBerry, sells for a whopping $9.95US and is available via direct download.

Pimp Your Ringtones

Once you’ve remodeled your ‘berry’, why not take it one step farther. You can create custom ringtones from your music files iTunes collection (unprotected files only, please!) or QuickTime Movie files by using PocketMac Ringtone Studio for BlackBerry ($14.95US)

To use it, all you have to do is drag your file onto the application. If it’s less than 30 seconds, the app does it’s magic automatically. If longer, a preview window allows you to select the exact 30 seconds you want.

Ringtone Studio does not support all BlackBerrys. It works with about  a dozen or so of the 8xxx series models. Check out for more details.

Sadly, the only thing you can’t get from PocketMac for your BlackBerry is an Apple Logo. But if you need to sync your Mac to your BlackBerry, you can do that and what’s best, it’s a free download!
