Last Minute Gadget Gift Ideas Just for DadIf you're like many who wait for the last minute to find that special gift for that special Dad, or Grand Dad, here are a few ideas especially if he's a geek - but he doesn't have to be.

For Dads who love Heavy Duty Wi-Fi

If he's a real geek and serious Wi-Fi is really important at home, then Dad may enjoy the Linksys WRT 1900AC Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router. This new router looks like a throwback to the earlier part of the 21st century, but its technology is significantly advanced.

It features a 1.2 GHz dual core processor that will provide enough bandwidth for the family to stream, game and the plethora of devices can share the connection simultaneously. In fact, it will allow up to 155 devices to be connected to it so that everyone in the house, including the dog's collar, can be connected to Wi-Fi any given time.

It features four removable antennas that can be positioned in different directions for maximum coverage on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously.

It comes with Linksys' proprietary Smart Wi-Fi software that allows Dad to monitor and control the network from anywhere, even a mobile device. Dad can also get an easy at-a-glance view of the entire home network with its special Network Map smart tool.  Now if Dad is an ultra-geek, the router also offers an Open WRT compatible firmware with Open Source ready capabilities so he can fiddle to his heart's content.

Linksys WRT 1900AC Dual Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router retails for $279.99 and is available through your favorite retailers including Best Buy, Future Shop and Memory Express

Smartphone Printing for Mobile Dads

When presented with all his gifts, the Fujifilm Instax Share SP-1 printer is probably the first one he should open, because he can use it right away. Taking a page from the Polaroid instant camera, Instax Share is actually a pocket-sized smartphone wireless photo printer.

All Dad has to do is take a picture with his smartphone or tablet, then download Fujifilm's Instax Share app for iOS or Android and wirelessly send the photos directly to the printer.

Last Minute Gadget Gift Ideas Just for DadIf Dad wants to keep memories of his special day, the app offers a series of templates to enhance the pictures. You can select themes like  “Happy Father's Day” to remember the day or add Dad's Facebook profile pic and “Likes” making it look like a status update.  You can do Instagram too. If you really want to make it unique, you can add filters, real-time data like date, place and even the temperature and humidity. Imagine that. Oh yes, and you can share the image on Facebook & Twitter.

It prints out 62mm x 46mm credit card size prints immediately and within moments you can see the picture coming alive.
It uses easy and quick-to-install film cartridges so there's no messy ink to worry about. It runs on 2 coin cell batteries that should be good for 100 prints.

It retails for $199.99 and is available at London Drugs. Film cartridges hold 10 shots each and a pack of two runs about $20.

Dad's Ultimate Fan

With summer just around the corner, you could potentially be Dad's ultimate fan if you present him with a Dyson AM06 Desk Fan.

The 12” fan features Dyson's air multiplier technology - similar technology to that used in jet engines. Dad can experience smooth high velocity airflow without the use of the noisy blades that he's been accustomed to for years.

If you're familiar with any of Dyson's previous models like the AM-01, their engineers have gone back to the drawing board and streamlined the fan's air channels.  Using an aircraft analogy, it reduces the airflow turbulence, which is typically responsible for causing the noise. Thus this fan is in fact 75% quieter than the previous model. Because it's engineered to create a powerful airflow it will also use significantly less energy. What that means for Dad is a little more peace and quiet and a lower energy bill to boot.

Last Minute Gadget Gift Ideas Just for DadNow for Dad, a remote control is just as important as the fan itself, right? With the AM06 handy-dandy palm-sized remote, Dad can choose from 10 airflow settings.  He can use the remote and choose to have the fan oscillate from side to side or power the unit on or off.

One of the coolest features, pardon the pun, is that the fan can be programmed to turn off after preset intervals. These can range from as little as a quarter hour to up to nine hours, so that the fan can be blowing from just a short time to overnight.

The Dyson AM-06 12” Cooling fan is available in three two-tone colours and retails for $349.99 with a two-year warranty. You can purchase it directly, with free shipping, from Dyson Canada as well as from outlets like Best Buy, Sears and The Bay.

I'm sure Dad would be happy with one of these and probably all three!

Happy Father's Day.
