'Mario Galaxy 2' surpasses original

It seems that nothing changes much in Mario's world. Princess Peach had to get kidnapped once again and her abductor, Bowser, is still the contemptible and unbearable jerk he always has been. Mario, himself, isn't content to having one galaxy to himself, so he had to go explore another in search of Peach and we are so very glad that he did.
As they say, appearances can be deceiving.
Streamlined and restructured, 'Super Mario Galaxy 2' is a great adventure that has been made even better. It is not just another sequel baring a numerical title and a fresh coat of paint.
It is overflowing with new weapons, new worlds, new physics puzzles and new challenges. The best of which is that Mario tag teams with that ravenous dinosaur Yoshi within certain galaxies. The pairing ushers in some hilarious gameplay elements that will bring a smile to the face of even the most world-weary gamer.
The new powers Mario has changes things up opening whole new ways to play. The 'Rock Suit' transforms Mario into a rolling juggernaut of splatter as he steamrolls over foes. With the 'Cloud Suit' enabled, Mario can create temporary cloud platforms to assist him in his travels. In the 'Bee Suit', you can hover and fly. As 'Rainbow Mario', you are invincible. Boo Mario lets you pass through walls and Spring Mario will have you jumping higher than you ever have in any Mario game.
But that's not all. Mario other gameplay mechanics are out of this world. You will soar on the wings of a gigantic bird and ride a dragon. You will ice skate, swim and bore right through various planets.
Just like Mario, Yoshi has special abilities too. Ingesting a pepper will cause him to run like the wind while gulping down specific berries and fruits will have Yoshi turning into a blimp or a bright light to reveal hidden areas.
'Mario Galaxy 2' is a less challenging game in some respects though. It is forgiving to a fault sometimes and it is hard to fail very badly. Call it child proof. Call it idiot proof. Mess up enough times and Hint Monitors borrowed from 'New Super Mario Brothers' appear to show you the error of your ways.
There is so much to do in 'Mario Galaxy 2' with so many challenges to unlock, you will be hard pressed to throw in the disk and ever be presented with a dull moment. Nintendo has not only stretched the limits of their imaginations but they have crammed the game with so many brilliant ideas, you cannot help but to appreciate the unparalleled effort that went into a sequel that surpasses the original in every way possible.
