3DS puzzle package worth the coin

Do you like Candy Crush Saga or Bejeweled? How about Pokemon? If so, you are gonna love Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros Editions for the Nintendo 3Ds.
Combining the best of both worlds, Puzzle & Dragons Z is an addictive RPG adventure melding the Pokemon rock, paper, scissors battle mechanic and creature collection with RPG battles incorporating the line-them-up-jewels puzzle games.
It may sound like an unlikely combination but it works and works well. With both the Mario and Dragons variants into one package, you get double your fun for the price of one.
Mario and Dragons follow the same gameplay, although Dragons is far more involved with far more background and story, a bit too much at times. While Mario's are a bit more static, the experiences are very much the same. You assemble your team of creatures, evolve them and then battle through quests, dungeons and defeat bosses as you explore the world around you.
The vital aspect of both titles is your ability to assemble the best combination of allies possible, complementing their skills and types to overcome the challenges that hinder you. It sounds a lot easier than it actually is. It takes a lot of trial and error as well as battle experience is needed to tweak things properly and efficiently.
Mastering the puzzle element is essential in that you won't blow through battles when the game's difficulty really ramps up unless you are adept at seeing those patterns and unleashing combos.
Although Mario has no plot except for the basic rescue the princess scenario, Dragons involves a kingdom being physically decimated by diabolical invaders: The Paradox. Although the storyline has a lot of wit and humour, there is far too much dialogue at times which can be irritating when you are itching to move on to your next battle. You don't want to read. You want to explore and fight. Why can't there be voice acting to minimize this agony is beyond my understanding.
Once you get past the deluge of dialogue, the Dragons adventure really does pull you in, especially with its assortment of engaging characters even though it does borrow from every Pokemon adventure you have ever played.
At the $35 price tag, the Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros Edition package is quite a steal if Pokemon style RPGs and jewel, marble puzzle games are your thing.
Catch 'em all and crush 'em all if you can.
