There are gamers then there are elite gamers.
For the player who wants to up their game to the next level, Microsoft has released the Elite Xbox wireless controller.
The fully customizable controller comes with a snazzy, protective carrying case, a USB cable to allow for PC Windows use, interchangeable D-Pads, thumbsticks and paddles. It also has a stereo headset jack compatible with the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter and all other 1st party Xbox One controller accessories.
The A, B, X, and Y buttons, D-pad, Left and right bumpers, Left and right triggers, Left and right thumbstick clicks are all customizable. To map your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller, it is as simple as downloading the Xbox Accessories app.
What you will notice right away picking the controller up, is its weight. Like a pro pool stick or tennis racket, the Elite Controller is made of finer stock. The controller weighs 348g when using with 4 paddles, the faceted D-pad and standard thumbsticks.
Gamers can configure the controller to suit whatever game they are playing at the time, whether it be a racing, a first-person shooter or a fighting game without any tools. Paddles can be added or removed and like the thumbsticks and D-pads, are held in with magnets.
One feature that will appeal to shooter fans is the hair trigger locks which will improve your rate of fire with semi-automatic weapons such as the DMR in Halo or the MK14 in Call Of Duty.
Fighting game fans and newcomers to the genre alike will love the faceted D-pad, which will help to pull off those tricky special moves and combos in games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.
The faceted D-pad can also help in racing games if you prefer to steer with the D-pad instead of a joystick, which many people do.
If you are playing a game and are not using the paddles but do not want to take them off, you can double tap the Bind button on top of the controller and it will disable them.
The paddles will help most with shooter games as you can reprogram the A, X, Y, and B buttons to the paddles on the back of the controller. Since most people use the fingers that are holding the controller to jump and melee, your thumb does not have to leave the right thumbstick. This improves your overall accuracy. The other thumbsticks can also improve your aim since the longer thumbsticks are more sensitive.
For all intents and purposes, the Elite Controller is the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa of Xbox controllers. If you are serious about gaming, enhancing your control to the max, and the $169.99 estimated retail price is not an issue, the Elite Controller is your ride.
