Michonne stars in new Walking Dead game

Ask any Walking Dead fan and they will agree: Michonne kicks serious ass. The katana-swinging, guarded and mysterious woman is the heart and soul of the Survivors. Although her character differs slightly from the comics to the television series, both are haunted by their past and are seeking redemption in some way.
Telltale Games’ standalone title, The Walking Dead: Michonne, takes its cue from the comic book series. In them, Michonne suffers a state of mental collapse of sorts and flees the survivors, joining another group who are at home at sea. She later returns to the Survivors following this brief absence.
After a quick and violent introduction to Michonne’s troubled background in this, the first episode in the Michonne series – "In Too Deep" - we find ourselves aboard the ship and familiarizing ourselves with the motley crew. It is just the calm before the storm. Before you can say…Carl!...walkers are trying to chow down on your tasty brains.
Michonne and the ship’s captain, Pete, eventually find themselves tangled up in a volatile situation involving a pair of thieves and a seaside community of bristly survivors.
As expected, there are a number of cruel, torturous choices that must be made throughout the game and like the TV series, there is more grey than black and white.
Like the original Telltale Walking Dead series though, there’s a lot of sitting back and watching scenes play out, a lot of straightforward busy work that requires no puzzle solving skills whatsoever and some quick time event combat sequences that will test your button smashing skills.
‘In Too Deep’ is very faithful to all of the hallmarks, atmosphere and tone that has fans glued to their televisions every Sunday night. As the voice of Michonne, Samira Wiley (Poussey Washington in ‘Orange Is the New Black’) is just amazing, her performance the highlight of the game. The developers couldn’t have picked a better understudy for Danai Gurira.
With two more chapters to be released in March and April, "In Too Deep" is not a magnum opus. Lasting just over an hour or so, the adventure ends just as it gathers some steam but at $14.99 for the seasons pass, the entire series, ‘Michonne’ as a whole is an absolute bargain, especially if you are a fan of shambling corpses, merciless machetes and a damn good story.
